• KLM was founded on 7 October 1919, by Albert Plesman, making it the oldest carrier in the world still operating under its original name.
• Air France was formed on 7 October 1933 from a merger of Air Orient, Air Union, Compagnie Générale Aéropostale, Compagnie Internationale de Navigation Aérienne (CIDNA), and Société Générale de Transport Aérien (SGTA).
• In 2004 Air France and KLM merged. They became the largest airline company in the world in terms of passenger transportation, cargo transportation and aeronautics maintenance. Their headquarters is in Tremblay-en-France, Paris, at the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. Other offices of Air France KLM are in Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis, Paris and Amstelveen in the Netherlands.
• Air France and KLM offer Flying Blue, a frequent flyer program. The two major hubs for Air France KLM are Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. They both transported 71.374 million passengers in 2010.
• Air France-KLM continuously invest in new aircraft. A modern fleet allows the Group to offer its passengers enhanced comfort, generate significant fuel savings and meet its corporate sustainability commitments by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution for residents.
• Air France and KLM are members of the SkyTeam airline alliance. This is an alliance of airline companies founded in 2000. Air France is one of the original founders, today there are 15 members.
• Air France-KLM with Delta Air Lines are working together to examine a bid for Virgin Atlantic in februari 2011.
• AirFrance-KLM has categorized as one of World's 10 safest airlines announced by ATRA in August 2011. |
